When it comes to designers and graphic artists there’s little recognition and praise for their work, especially in Soundcloud culture where quick and individual fame comes before appraisal for group effort. Nonetheless many are prospering on their own, finding ways to reach an audience from their own corners of Twitter and Instagram. Davis7500 is one of those artists. Some of the biggest artists of the last year have commissioned him, and after making a major career decision to join Forever World’s design team, Davis is on path to becoming one of the most admired artists of the underground. We reached out to him for a few question on how his career began and what we can expect from him in the future.
How old are you and where are you from?
I’m from Mckinney, Texas and I’m 17 years old.
When did you first get into making art?
I’ve been drawing all my life but I picked it up as like a weekly/daily thing a year and a half ago.
What helped you transition from part time to full time?
At first I was making beats, and I sucked at it lol and drawing was always my strong suit. Like the idea that I could make money off of doing something that I love and I’m good at mainly.
Who are some of your influences?
@PAPIKODONE for sure. @dawanakir and Ralph Steadman.
Is there anything you want to do as a side of doing art?
Street art most notably, graffiti and tagging, and clothing. Ideally I want to develop a style that’s recognizable anywhere so I can market it.
There’s a lot of artists turning to drawing an away from other forms. Does that make you want to move away from drawing and to other forms and mediums?
It depends, usually I try to not let what others are doing influence what I’m doing, but in terms of like them turning to fashion, interior design and animation, yes I do find myself wanting to move on to those sorts of mediums. At the beginning I was set on cover art, mainly because of my influences, but now I’m at a point where I’ll move to a medium because I think it would be a cool idea.
Is there anything you do or go to when you feel discouraged about your work?
Mainly my supporters. They boost my art a ton and seeing the amount of people interested in me lifts me up a ton.
How did you meet BigBabyGucci and end up in Forever World?
I originally met him through other artists like Grimm and 2k, and then after I did the Almighty Energy cover for him and Drayco he hit me up to be part of the design team in Forever World along with Nipz and Lavish.
Which one of your personal pieces is your favorite?
Probably this one. I was trying something new and out of my comfort zone and it turned out nice.
What was the most memorable moment for you last year?
Probably the Ugly God and Smokepurpp cover Nipz and I did. That was huge.
What advice would you give to an artist just starting out in their career?
Don’t do anything that you aren’t driven to do really. If you don’t have passion in it don’t do it.
What can we expect from you this year?
Clothing. I got an airbrush set of tees coming out soon. A lot more paintings for sale, and for show and just generally a lot more beyond cover art. But also cover art because I think that’s where most of my time is built.
Is there anything else you want to tell our readers?
Buy cover art from me before I close commissions again lol.
