Artists going half and half on projects are some of the best but often overlooked moments in Soundcloud’s short history. Not only are they some of the most enjoyable bodies of work, they helped shaped the underground’s landscape. Lil Yachty and Wintertime’s Wintertime On A Boat is surely one the most memorable tapes to come from either of them, and that’s saying a lot considering they’ve both released really good projects since then.
They aren’t the only duality worth mentioning. Lil Peep and Tracy’s Castles 1 and Castles 2 were both pivotal to their individual success, the first tape for both Da$h and RetcH came as La Cienega, and of course XXXTentacion and Ski Mask The Slumpgod’s Members Only, arguably the biggest duo in recent years.
Major projects like these also show labels and those watching how serious artists take their careers, because its much more than music. They require more planning than individual tapes, from the artwork to the careful choice of production, let alone compromising with other creative minds and opinions on something so important. At the end of the day, whether you care for them or not, you can’t ignore their role in the underground or music the industry in general.
