Years before I ever wanted to make music, before I knew of Soundcloud, before Spotify and Apple Music, Youtube was where I found the very artists that are now the frontrunners of the industry. I remember hearing that first song and knowing that they would be big in the next few years. It’s been a while since I’ve had that feeling, and with the underground moving so fast it’s harder to find promising artists before they shift into the spotlight. But today I stumbled upon an artist in Atlanta that goes by the name of Wesson, and experienced that feeling I had when I first heard Isiah Rashad, Cole, Kendrick and other greats.

Surrounded by trap and everything experimental, Wesson is pushing the boundaries of Hip Hop in his own way, and he does it with little effort. I had to double back and listen to Let’s Ride Our Heelies to the Cosmos again just to make sure I didn’t misinterpret a line, or just to hear the melody in the production again. His impressive 17 track project For Future Reference is a bold statement that should be heard by everyone, and years from now we will refer back to it as a pivotal moment in his career. Wesson is still budding right now but there’s no doubt in my mind that he has what it takes to change the city forever.
