Minnesota has been a safe haven for some of the underground’s quickest rising talents for some time now, even though most of us didn’t know or simply chose to ignore it. As Lerado blazes himself a path out of Minnesota and across the country, the area is already crawling with some of his long time affiliates, all eagerly awaiting for their chance to show the world their creations. Marquesisdead is one of them, and in the past year alone he has accomplished what few have, finding his own unique sound and translating often dark and inconsolable emotions in ways few can. We caught up with him to ask about Black House, his very own collective, his humble beginning in music and future endeavors.
Who is Marquesisdead?
Some punk, he’s kind of a dickhead tbh. Naw but in all seriousness it’s my take on the world. The name represents the death of my past self. A fresh start.
Since your name relies heavily on your life do you think you will change it as you progress as an artist?
Cant spill all the sauce but I believe it’s possible. I’d rather people remember me for who I am and what I do right now but it’s pretty on brand. It’ll be Marquesisdead for a while.
What are some of your favorite things to do outside of music?
I been fucking with video games hella. I just be playing Fortnite and recording lmao. I don’t pop out like I used to but I been getting really into curating events recently. Black House just threw one last night it was like 300+ people that had popped out.
Tell me more about Black House. How did that come about and what do you guys have planned for the future?
It started with just the name. I had came up with this ideate form a team/collective so I had Crayoncreative make a logo. After that I posted and asked if anyone wanted to be included. Everything else sort of just fell into place. We’re a family now. We got events planned and we gone be expanding to other states by 2019.
How has being in a collective changed your creative process? If it has at all?
If anything I just got more of a reason to go hard now. It’s always been people I needed to feedlot now I got a team tryna make it. Everybody dumb motivated. It’s kinda beautiful.
Who or what in your life influences you most?
The people thats around me be inspiring me to push myself in new directions and go harder. I wouldn’t be shit without my friends and family.
What can we expect from you the rest of this year and the next?
Without giving too much away I’ll just say I’m working on a lot of more visuals for F/W 18- Early 2019. You’ll be seeing a lot more of my face. Also Murakami Print Coffin drops sometime next month. It’s going to be an EP.
Is there anything else you want to tell our readers?
Not really. Just keep an eye out. You’ll be seeing a lot more of me soon. Black House forever.
